Try these 10 top tips to keep your fave hijabs looking new for as long as possible!
- Handwash your hijabs. If you insist on using the washing machine, place your hijabs in a mesh laundry bag or a pillowcase first
- Wash dark and light coloured hijabs separately
- Always use cold water to wash
- Use only a pinch of washing powder or a splash of laundry detergent
- Avoid commercial bleach. Pour some white vinegar into the laundry water for yellowing hijabs
- Do not wring washed hijabs – squeeze out the water gently to prevent stretching. To dry a silk hijab, place it flat on a bath towel, roll them up together and wring gently
- Dry hijabs outdoors (if possible) but shaded from direct sunlight to prevent its colour from fading
- Lay hijabs flat on a surface to dry – instead of hanging them on poles or hangers – to retain their shape
- Set the iron temperature to as low as possible and press on the reverse side. Silk hijabs should be ironed while they are still damp
- Do not place mothballs where you store your hijabs. Use lavender sachets instead – they keep away moths and smell good
